by Sue Burkhard

The old dog weak and weary
Sent his gaze towards me,
My body's old and broken,
From my pain please set me free.

You gave me love and life
And a place to call my home.
I no longer had to scavenge food,
I no longer had to roam.

I lived in comfort long past the day
They said that I would die.
I played and romped and chased the ball,
I gave it my best try.

I beat the odds time and again,
to find my home with you.
Don't feel sad when I am gone,
Don't feel guilty or be blue.

The answer lies deep in my eyes,
Search them and you will see.
My time on earth is over,
Its time to set me free.

Time was the gift you gave to me
The day you brought me here,
But my home's now in Heaven,
Although I'll be watching things down there.

So don't be sad that I am gone,
Your gift of love I'll always treasure.
God gave me you, you gave me love,
Your rewards are beyond measure.

My body's weak and weary,
Its time to set me free.
Look deep into my eyes
And grant me this last plea.
