Twenty month old Oliver Twist hurt his right rear leg during schooling in Oklahoma and was put back on the farm to recover as best he could with no medical help. When Oliver puts his foot down (note he is touching the toe only), the whole foot goes flat to the ground. Right now he hops. The orthopedic surgeon confirmed that Oliver needs to have the joint fused in order to be able to use this leg. The estimate for this procedure is approximately $1800. In order for Oliver to be adopted and have his own family, this leg will have to be repaired. Oliver is being cared for at Quad Cities Greyhound Adoption in Rock Island, Illinois. At any given time, they are housing and feeding about 30 to 40 dogs which does not leave enough funding to cover this substantial of an expense.
Additionally, this group is paying for another dog, Peanuts, to have a similar leg injury corrected at the same time. This group also helps many broken leg dogs recuperate in their care...as many as 12 broken legs in the kennel at one time just this past season.
